METHUEN, MA - 3M Touch Systems announces the availability of the 3M MicroTouch System SCT7650EX, 3M’s next-generation, price-competitive surface capacitive touch solution for vandal-prone, heavy-use environments.

3m-microtouch.jpg

Three key product features offer display integrators an economic, user-safe, easy to seal, robust touch solution for unattended public applications such as ATMs, kiosks, and vending machines. First, the 3M MicroTouch System SCT7650EX is now up to 40% less expensive than 3M’s current 3M MicroTouch ToughTouch II system. Second, the SCT7650EX touch system still features optically-clear laminated glass-on-glass construction which provides superior impact resistance and 86.5% light transmission for brighter, crisper display images. And finally, now the SCT7650EX touch system uses a conductive adhesive-bonded flexible circuit tail in place of the traditional solder connections and wire leads designed to facilitate a superior liquid and dust seal between the touch sensor and display bezel.
The 3M MicroTouch Sensor SCT7650’s laminated construction withstands the EN/UL 60950-1 impact resistance test and provides the necessary surface durability for most unattended, public-access environments. If surface breakage occurs due to extraordinary impact, the lamination helps isolate the glass shards between the touch surface and LCD to protect the user. In addition to providing high impact strength, the sensor construction can also include 3M Vikuiti Advanced Light Control Film (ALCF), which increases application security by restricting the display viewing angle and helping keep sensitive data private.

As developers of off-highway equipment turn green and make greater use of biodiesel fuels, the need for biocompatible sensors increases. The EGT Diesel Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor is one that features an enclosed foul-proof probe tip for operation in bio-fuel and diesel engine applications. Manufactured in the U.S. from Inconel and 316SS, this type K thermocouple can withstand extreme conditions, making it suitable for use in R&D and testing as well as in agricultural, marine, automotive/racing applications and in truck engine management systems and LNP injection systems.

feb-dfi-5.jpg

The sensor is capable of surviving extreme vibration and heat up to 1200 degrees C. The foul-proof sensing tip is recommended for temperature measurements of sulfuric fuels such as diesel and bio-fuels. Measuring 0.187 in. in diameter (4.75 mm), the probe will fit most diesel engine exhaust systems from 0.750 in. (19 mm) to 4.0 in. (100 mm) in diameter with nominal installation modifications. A 90° bend to the probe accommodates tight-spaced mounting locations. An adjustable (316 Stainless Steel) 1/8 in. NPT compression fitting adapter is included.

The probe cable, over-braided in stainless steel for heavy-duty abrasion resistance, extends 6 ft (2 m) in length.  Signal wires are Teflon insulated to ensure reliable and consistent high temperature measurement in the most extreme operating conditions.
