Handheld home health monitoring devices aim to simplify users’ ability to take a greater role in their healthcare. Looking very similar to a handheld remote control or text messaging, Plessey’s imPulse hand-held electrocardiogram (ECG) monitor takes advantage of its latest EPIC sensors. To obtain an ECG reading, the user places a thumb on each of the two sensor pads that employ two Plessey PS25201 sensors to recover the ECG signals. The process does not require conductive gel or skin preparation. The EPIC sensor typically consumes only 1.5mA during the 15 seconds required for sensing the ECG reading allowing a battery life of several months before recharging.
