Kavlico’s Common-Rail Pressure Sensor
Moorpark, CA – Kavlico has designed a sensor to measure common-rail pressure in diesel engines. The advantages of monitoring common rail pressure are many; including increasing engine power & torque, improving fuel economy, reducing engine noise, and improving vehicle drive-ability while creating cleaner exhaust emissions. With today’s restrictive emissions standards, keeping exhaust particulate emissions within the mandated levels is a must… and Kavlico’s common-rail sensor is an essential element of the common-rail injection system.

Pressure is regulated and monitored by the Electronic Diesel Control Unit (EDCU) which receives an electronic input from the Kavlico pressure sensor. The sensor operates on 5 Vdc and provides a 0.5 to 4.5 Vdc linear amplified analog output proportional to pressure to the EDCU. The highly accurate and ruggedly designed sensor uses a thin film TiON sense element which provides highly reliable and repeatable measurements.
The cost-effective sensor is EMI/EMC protected, has low power consumption, and is capable of operation in high vibration environments. Fully temperature compensated across the entire measurement range, the sensor has an operational temperature of -40ºC to 125 ºC.
Pressure ranges are available from 0 to 3,000 Bar or 40,000+ PSI. The sensor can be customized to accommodate a wide array of pressure ports and electrical connector options dependent upon each OEM application-specific requirement. Alternative pressure ranges and output formats are also available upon request.

Kavlico Pressure Sensors for Hydraulic Applications
April 14, 2009 by R. Nelson Parrish
Moorpark, CA – Kavlico has a suite of sensors that have been designed to perform in a wide variety of hydraulic applications. Capable of operating for millions of pressure cycles, these low power consumption pressure sensors provide an accurate, reliable, and stable signal over many years of operation in the harshest environments. The high overpressure capability of our sensors for fluid power applications are designed to withstand the pressure fluctuations associated with these applications.

These rugged devices have stainless steel housings and can be configured with a broad selection of process and electrical connectors to fit the specification criteria for each application. Operating on 5 Vdc, the sensors provide a 0.5 to 4.5 linear amplified output proportional to pressure. Pressure ranges are available up to 6,000 PSI.
Typical pressure sensor applications include:
•On & off-highway and vocational vehicle hydraulic systems
•Trenching machines
•Pressurized tools
•Adaptive suspension systems
•Material testing
•Lifts
•Cargo loading systems
•Transmissions
•Hydraulic applications for heavy equipment
Kavlico sensors for Hydraulic applications include:
•P4000 – Sealed High Pressure Sensor
•P250/P251 – Sealed Industrial Pressure Sensor
Kavlico General Purpose Pressure Sensor
Moorpark, CA – Kavlico has developed the P255 general purpose pressure sensor with advanced electronics for enhanced performance. The mixed-signal CMOS ASIC provides for improved EMI/RFI and accuracy specifications. Specifically designed for pressure measurements of 0-15 to 0-1000 PSIA/PSIG, the P255 is a robust device utilizing a ceramic diaphragm that can withstand exposure to a wide array of liquid and gaseous process media.

Excited by 5 Vdc, the P255 provides a linear amplified output of 0.5 to 4.5 Vdc that is proportional to pressure. The sensor has low power consumption, superior long-term stability, and excellent repeatability and hysteresis. Other significant features include over-voltage, reverse polarity, and short circuit protection.
The P255 has a 316 stainless steel housing and has an operating temperature range of -40° to +125°C.
The P255 is RoHS compliant and can be ordered in off-the-shelf designs or adapted to fit unique OEM application-specific requirements. A wide variety of electrical connector and pressure connection ports may be chosen to fit measurement criteria.
