Palatine, Ill. — Schneider Electric announces its new XUV Fork Ultrasonic Sensor. Built for efficiency and equipment cost reduction, the ultrasonic sensor uses thru-beam technology to detect labels of any material, size, color or translucency.

The thru-beam technology allows Schneider Electric’s ultrasonic sensor to send sound through an object and determine the thickness by how much sound is returned. The +/- keys on the sensor allow for real-time modifications based on the thickness of the material being sensed. The sensor also can be locked to avoid unnecessary adjustments and will retain its settings even if the sensor is powered down and turned back on; saving the facility irreplaceable time and money.

The ultrasonic sensor is suitable for a variety of applications, including label, ply, double-sheet, splice and wrinkle/seam detection. It is capable of detecting labels between thicknesses of 0.03 mm (0.001″) and 0.08 mm (0/003″). The ultrasonic sensor is IP65 rated and operates in the temperature range of 5°C to 55°C (41°F to 131°F).
