Thermal sensors provide 9-ms response for precise flow control

November 12, 2025 By Redding Traiger Leave a Comment

Posifa Technologies has announced the PMF82000 series of mass air flow sensors, designed to measure low air flow rates with high accuracy and quick response in compact systems. The sensors are intended for use in oxygen delivery, respiratory equipment, and other flow-measurement applications requiring stable performance and low pressure drop.

The PMF82000 sensors use Posifa’s thermal flow sensing technology to provide consistent readings across the full measurement range. Accuracy is specified at 1% of full scale from 0% to 25% of the range, and 4% of reading from 25% to 100%. The typical response time is 9 milliseconds. Low pressure drop minimizes resistance in air paths, helping to reduce system load and improve control precision. The sensors operate from a 5-volt supply with a current draw of about 20 milliamperes.

The devices provide both analog and digital outputs. The analog interface delivers a 0.5- to 4.5-volt transfer function, with a corresponding digital mapping via an I²C communication interface. The series supports push-to-connect fittings with a 6-millimeter outer dimension and includes wetted materials of nylon, FR4, and silicone. Each sensor can tolerate over-pressure up to 30 psi, functions across temperatures from -25 °C to +65 °C, and requires a warm-up time of approximately five seconds. The initial product in the series, the PMF82010, covers a 10-standard-liter-per-minute full-scale range.

Samples and production quantities are currently available through Posifa Technologies and its distributors.
