Radar sensor achieves 20 meter detection range for IoT applications

Infineon Technologies AG has launched its XENSIV BGT60CUTR13AIP, a 60 GHz CMOS radar sensor designed for low-power IoT applications. The sensor targets smart home and IoT devices and includes Infineon hardware and software support, third-party modules, and transferable FCC certification.

The XENSIV 60 GHz CMOS radar family incorporates on-chip processing through a hardware accelerator that provides access to either raw or pre-processed data. The on-chip radar processing offloads the host processor and supports system architectures with smaller form factors. An integrated bootloader enables the BGT60CUTR13AIP to run autonomous low-power presence detection to wake the host processor when required.

The sensor provides 7 GHz bandwidth and 11 dBm output power, enabling detection of moving and static targets at ranges up to 20 meters. The antenna in package design features one transmit channel and three receive channels that enable a 150-degree field of view covering both azimuth and elevation dimensions. Target applications include security cameras, smart thermostats, smart TVs, and HVAC systems.

The BGT60CUTR13AIP’s on-chip processing and radar performance specifications enable low-power presence detection for battery-powered smart home and smart building applications. These include video doorbells, smart displays, and smart speakers that interact with users upon presence detection. Software stacks support people tracking, gesture sensing, activity monitoring, and vital signs sensing capabilities.

The XENSIV 60 GHz CMOS BGT60CUTR13AIP is currently sampling with commercial availability scheduled for early 2026. Infineon provides a demo kit for hardware and software evaluation. Additional software tools, drivers, reference designs, and an FCC certified radar module are available for sensor integration.
