mmWave sensor adds Wi-Fi HaLow connectivity for extended range IoT monitoring

August 1, 2025 By Redding Traiger Leave a Comment

Airfide Networks has released the AFN6843 micro-mobility occupancy sensor with Wi-Fi HaLow connectivity. The sensor completed three months of field testing and incorporates Morse Micro’s MM6108 Wi-Fi HaLow SoC for extended range IoT deployments.

The device builds on Airfide’s mmWave and Edge AI sensing architecture, integrating sub-GHz Wi-Fi HaLow technology that provides extended coverage distance compared to Wi-Fi 4/5/6/7 standards while maintaining low power consumption and connection reliability for commercial and industrial applications.

The sensor performs edge AI detection for occupancy, presence, motion, and fall events using mmWave radar technology for non-camera-based monitoring. The system includes people counting capabilities with angle detection and connects to a cloud platform for data analysis and monitoring through Android and iOS applications.

Applications include building automation for HVAC and lighting control, desk utilization optimization, and occupancy density monitoring in office environments. Healthcare and aged care facilities can implement fall detection, inactivity monitoring, and presence tracking without privacy concerns. Retail and public spaces benefit from people counting, dwell time measurement, queue monitoring, and traffic pattern analysis. Industrial and logistics operations can track personnel in hazardous areas, detect objects, and monitor zone safety compliance.

The Wi-Fi HaLow integration enables whole-building sensor coverage through the sub-GHz frequency band while supporting wireless deployment without infrastructure modifications.
