How can you learn to use a digital output humidity+temperature sensor?

February 27, 2018 By Randy Frank

With Avnet’s four-part MiniZed SpeedWay Design Workshops™ interactive series of video presentations, using its MiniZed™ Zynq SoC development kit, interested participants learn techniques to integrate the HTU21D sensing peripheral module from TE Connectivity as part of the training.  The development kit is a prototyping platform for embedded vision and Industrial IoT systems. Design Workshops are also available online for free, on-demand viewing at ZedBoard.org.

Available through Avnet, he HTU21D is a digital output humidity and temperature sensor embedded in a reflow solderable Dual Flat No leads (DFN) package that has a 3 x 3 x 0.9-mm form factor. The digital sensor provides calibrated, linearized signals in an I²C format. Fully calibrated during manufacture, the self-contained humidity and temperature sensor operates from 1.5V to 3.6V, has selectable resolution, low-battery detect, and checksum capability. For power-sensitive applications, the HTU21D has a low current stand-by mode. It connects to the MiniZed development kit through dual Pmod-compatible connectors.

Since the MiniZed features on-board connectivity through USB, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and a design compact enough to fit into a shirt pocket, participants can target their sensor design efforts towards wireless and wearable applications, where the HTU211D’s small size make it an ideal sensor.

In addition to the on-demand workshops, another way to learn about interfacing the digital humidity and temperature sensor is through Avnet’s live MiniZed SpeedWay Design Workshops that will continue to be offered during the first half of 2018 in select locations throughout North America, Europe and Asia.

For more information on the individual videos or to register for live events, visit Avnet’s SpeedWay training and events page or the ZedBoard.org training site
