Withings combined ams AG’s gas sensor with a 5Mpixel video camera, dual microphones, temperature and humidity sensors and Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® Smart radios in its Home monitoring system. The result is a system that can see, hear, feel and smell and alert the home owner though a smartphone or tablet app.
The AS-MLV-P2 MEMS gas sensor component for volatile organic compound (VOC) detection produces a precisely varying resistance in response to changes in ambient levels of pollutants commonly found in indoor environments.
Measurements of ambient concentrations of a broad range of reducing gases associated with bad air quality such as alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, organic acids, amines, and aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, which can be harmful to human and animal health at high levels are converted to an air-quality rating as well as to a measurement of VOC concentrations in the Home app. The Home unit sends notifications to the user’s phone or tablet when the concentration of VOCs exceeds pre-set thresholds.
