At Sensors Expo, held June 4-6 at the Rosemont Convention Center in Chicago, Il., one of the first new people that I met was Jim Banas, a senior product marketing engineer at JSR Micro, a company that manufactures lithium-ion (Li-Ion) super capacitors. Jim attended the energy harvesting symposium that I organized and chaired. Later in the exhibit area, he explained the difference in technology and performance of the Li-Ion capacitor that his company makes that can be used for energy storage in wireless sensor systems. Compared to Electric Double Layer Capacitors (ELDCs) they have higher capacitance, voltage and energy density.
