Harsh environments dictate specially qualified packaging. While the purchase price of low cost plastic sensors may initially make them attractive, untimely failures in a harsh environment can quickly change the selection to more a rugged package. It is these types of applications that Banner Engineering wants to address with its new M18-4 self-contained photoelectric sensors. With its IP69K-rated 316 stainless steel housing, the 18-mm metal barrel sensor can withstand abrasive chemicals and ingress fluids.
The sensors also have electrical performance in addition to their mechanical capabilities. ASIC (application specific integrated circuit) technology, enables the sensors to resist fluorescent light interference and avoid crosstalk. The M18-4 sensor is offered in opposed, polarized and non-polarized retroreflective, diffuse and fixed-field sensing modes.
