You put sensors, wireless communications and computing technology together to solve a problem and what do you get? Smart something. In the marina area, it’s a smart marina.
Case in Point: Tourist ports in Greece lacked a reservation mechanism, so captains had problems finding or planning for an available berth. Recognizing the problem, start-up SaMMY went to work to solve it. Working with Libelium, the maker of Waspmote Plug & Sense! Sensor Platform, the partners installed a wireless sensor network to monitor mooring berths, measure the sea water level and observe the weather conditions. Now marinas can be part of the Internet of Things.
