Using a quad Hall element and proprietary programming, Honeywell Sensing and Control developed a high sensitivity and fast response, latching sensor without using the traditional chopper-stabilization technique. Benefits of the new design include: high sensitivity, repeatability, and fast response time that all contribute to a more efficient brushless DC (BLDC) motor design.
The SS360PT (SO-23 package) and SS460P (TO-92 package) Hall-Effect sensors provide reliable switching points with a magnetic sensitivity of 30 Gauss typical, at 25°C (77°F, and 55 Gauss maximum over the full -40°C to 125°C [-40°F to 257°F] temperature range. This sensitivity allows the use of smaller magnets or a wider air gap.
