Reliably Monitor Both Speed and Acceleration

February 12, 2014 By Randy Frank

SICK_SAMDetecting wire, thread and web break quickly in industrial applications is important to reduce scrap and downtime. For these and other applications, SICK’s SAM inductive sensor provides both speed and acceleration monitoring. The sensor’s acceleration monitoring functionality measures the change in speed, detecting a break almost immediately. Both a raw pulse output and a programmable, discrete switching output provide users options. The sensor has a monitoring range of up to 12,000 pulses/minute and a selectable start-up delay. To account for fast or slow machine start-up times and reduce false trips, the sensor has three modes – no delay, fixed time delay and upper threshold delay.
