Velodyne’s lidar sensors are designed for seamless integration with robotic platforms by being easy to mount, having low-power consumption and include a web configuration tool. They are meticulously designed to perform in high-stress environmental conditions like inclement weather, essential for outdoor deployments.
Some of Velodyne Lidar’s technology and value-adds in the robotics space:
Postmateshas included Velodyne’s intelligent, versatile lidar technology in its innovative self-driving “Serve Autonomous Robot,” equipped with a Velodyne Lidar VLP-16 sensor for short-distance deliveries. Using Velodyne’s compact, powerful lidar sensor, Serve combines autonomy and emission-free robotics for efficient, sustainable movement of goods in many cities. VLP-16 Puck is strategically built into the top of the rover for a high-performance surround view, enabling Serve to detect people and objects as it completes local deliveries.
The Canadian-based Clearpath Robotics incorporates Velodyne’s groundbreaking lidar sensors in its research robot platform, specifically to academic and corporate research organizations on its mobile robots for survey and inspection, oil and gas, agriculture, materials handling and other applications. Clearpath’s robotic solutions utilizes Velodyne’s state-of-the-art lidar technology, which boasts industry-leading resolution, range and field of view. Velodyne sensors create a 360° real-time map of the environment, allowing the robot to detect and avoid obstacles for safe autonomous navigation.
At CES 2019,Velodyne partnered with its network of customers that are using lidar technology in a range of innovative solutions, including robotics, who presented in the Velodyne booth. These partners included Apex.OS is an SDK compatible ROS 2 (Robot Operating System); and AutonomouStuff, who provides the best R&D platforms, products, software and engineering services to aid in the advancement of robotics and autonomy.
Velodyne sponsored RoboNation, bringing state-of-the-art lidar technology and skills to future engineers and supporting the next generation of AV developers in the Maritime RobotX Challenge.
