Available for Licensing: Ultra-Sensitive Touch Sensing Technology

May 29, 2013 By Randy Frank

peratech_138Using its Quantum Tunneling Composite (QTC) material, Peratech has developed a sensor design sensitive enough to detect the pressure of a finger on the top of a 0.1-mm stainless steel or 0.5-mm glass sheet. Mounted behind the sheet, the QTC material’s resistance changes when pressure is applied to the top of the sheet. The QTC Ultra Sensor only takes a deflection of a micron or so for the material to sense the touch through the sheet. The sensor can be as thin as a small piece of QTC sheeting or even screen printed on the back of the steel plate. Peratech licenses the use of QTC technology solutions to customers and has attracted interest from white goods and automotive manufacturers.
