ABB Jokab Safety Eden sensors feature RFID for greater security and vibration resistance

July 13, 2017 By Maddie Lippert Leave a Comment

ABB Jokab Safety Eden sensors, including the Dyanmic and new OSSD models, now feature a solid-state, board-level design with radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology for increased resistance to vibration and greater security.

  • Last year, ABB Jokab Safety introduced the Eden OSSD safety sensor for a line of safety sensors that also includes the well-established Eden Dynamic safety sensor for in-series, multiple-sensor applications of up to 30 sensors.
  • Eden Dynamic safety sensors use ABB Jokab’s dynamic-pulse, single-channel safety architecture and comply with Category 4/Performance Level e (Cat. 4/PLe) per EN/ISO 13849. Cat. 4/ PLe indicates that failure of an individual device will not result in the loss of safety function and is the highest rating for reliability and safety.
  • Additionally, RFID technology allows for large sensing distances and its vibration resistance decreases the risk of involuntary stops that are common in older technologies.
  • The entire line is IP69K rated, making ABB Jokab Safety Eden safety sensors ideal for applications that require resistance to dust and liquid ingress, such as wash-down operations in food and beverage processing plants.

“We’re finding that the entire line of Jokab Eden safety sensors is becoming increasingly popular in the food and beverage processing, packaging and material handling industries,” said Darrell L. Burkeen, product marketing engineer for ABB Jokab Safety Products. “In response to this demand, we’ve upgraded the entire line to be IP69K wash-down rated and introduced the capability of uniquely coding our Eden safety sensors to comply with the demands of EN/ISO 14119 for hazardous applications. With the addition of Eden OSSD, up to 30 Eden sensors can be used on a single, standard safety relay or safety PLC, making it ideal for many MRO retrofit and OEM applications.”

All Jokab Eden safety sensors can attach to local reset light buttons and can be connected directly to M12 connectors on the ABB Eden Adam-Reset safety sensor to reduce the required cable and connections.  The sensors’ LED error indication lights and information output facilitate troubleshooting to find errors quickly and reduce downtime.  Jokab Eden safety sensors also have flexible, 360-degree mounting and a temperature range of minus 40 to 158 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 40 to 79 degrees Celsius).
