Electrical noise source such as radios, power supplies, lights and motors can pose serious problems for capacitive sensors. To combat these problems, Texas Instruments (TI) FDC2214 capacitive sensing integrated circuit (IC) family offers 60x better performance in the presence of noise compared to existing capacitive-sensing solutions. The IC’s have a unique narrow-band architecture that eliminates unwanted noise and common environmental interferences. Automotive, consumer and industrial applications that previously relied on other sensing technologies can now take advantage of capacitive sensing for lower system cost and better reliability.
Design support includes a reference design for a noise-immune capacitive proximity sensor system and FDC2214EVM and FDC2114EVM evaluation modules (EVMs).
