Reed Switch Triggers Proximity Alarm

March 8, 2012 By Randy Frank

Built around the company’s proven technology, including the GR150 and GR200 magnetic reed switches,   Standex Electronics has introduced a non-contact proximity alarm that combines audio and visual alerts. Reed sensing technology competes with Hall effect sensing and both technologies use external magnets but unlike solid state Hall effect sensors, reed switches are electromechanical devices.

The reed switches in the alarm measure as small as 3.7 mm in length and retain magnetic sensitivity of 2-4 Ampere Turns (AT) with a typical operating time of 0.2 milliseconds and a typical release time of 0.1 milliseconds.

The battery-powered proximity alarms target applications such as industrial position sensing, door ajar indicators, security applications and more.

I’m not aware of and certainly could not recommend a proximity alarm manufacturer but you could contact Standex and see if they could do this or point you towards one.
